‘Barbie’ Still Busting Out, Rules Box Office for Second Weekend with $93M

Pink power! There’s no stopping Barbie at the box office.

Director Greta Gerwig’s live-action flick based on the iconic Mattel toy raked in $93 million in its second weekend in North American theaters to lead all films, according to estimates released Sunday.

Barbie has now grossed an estimated $351 million domestically, Comscore reported.

Oppenheimer was in second place, grossing a strong $46.2 million in its second week of release.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion opened in third place with $24.2 million from Friday through Sunday.

The faith-based drama Sound of Freedom continued its remarkable run, landing in fourth place with $12.4 million in its fourth weekend in theaters.

Fifth place went to “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” with $10.7 million in its third weekend, just ahead of the horror film Talk to Me, which opened with $10 million for sixth place.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Elemental, Insidious: The Red Door and “Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani”.

This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $213.9 million. The year-to-date total is $5.788 billion, an increase of 20% over the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
