It’s back to San Diego for one popular artist.

Concetta Antico, an internationally acclaimed Australian-born artist renowned for her scientifically-proven ability to see over 100 million colors, has returned to San Diego to unveil a new gallery space in La Jolla, called The Salon of Art Gallery.

The gallery, a blend of Victorian and modern design, invites visitors to explore Antico’s singular artistic vision, where nature and science are united through her kaleidoscopic color palette and impressionistic brushwork.

It is within this intimate space that the artist shares her unique works, offering the public a chance to experience herperception of the world in person.

A functioning tetrachromat, which is a rare genetic condition that gifted her eyes four color receptors, allowing her to resolve over 100 million more colors than those of us with three color receptors and regular vision.

An oil painter since the age of five, she channels this superhuman gift into her art, resulting in a stunning body of impressionistic works that capture the hidden colors and true beauty of the natural world on canvas.

“My super vision is a catalyst for every color choice and brushstroke. I birth a unique piece of myself onto every canvas,” she said. “My art to serves as a window into my tetrachromatic vision, offering others a glimpse of their world that they cannot see.”

Growing up in Sydney, Concetta’s early fascination with nature and color led her to artistic expression where she developed her distinctive vibrant style. After moving to the U.S. she discovered her rare condition in 2012, understanding of her otherworldly color vision deepened, profoundly shaping both her art and her approach to teaching. Antico later learned that her late mother was likely a tetrachromat, helping her to further understand the nuances of her childhood experiences.

As the only scientifically endorsed tetrachromatic artist in the world, Concetta’s extraordinary ability has garnered widespread attention, with her work featured in national publications such as The Wall Street JournalThe CutThe Daily Mail, and The Guardian. Following 23 years in Mission Hills and 6 years back in her home country of Australia during COVID, she is excited to re-engage with the San Diego arts community, showcasing her rare and highly collectible paintings to a new audience.

The Salon of Art Gallery will serve as San Diego’s newest community hub for art and modern-day magic, featuring quarterly themed exhibitions, live painting events, classical fine art instruction, artist talks, and juried shows.

The Salon of Art Gallery is located at 7655 Fay Avenue, La Jolla, San Diego, California Wed –Sun 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. For more information, visit www.concettaantico.com
