Liberty Station Heats Up in July with Music, Murals, Pop-Up Market

Liberty Station’s Arts District will host a diverse array of activities for July, including a pop-up market at the North Promenade and a nod to the World Design Capital.
The major design event, with the first binational designation of San Diego and Tijuana, will be honored all summer as part of Liberty Station‘s Summer Music Series.
Here’s some of what Liberty Station is offering up beginning this week:
Friday – First Friday at Arts District includes the grand opening of Faces by Miche and the Emerging Artist Solo Show by Leslye Villaseñor, who will present her collection of paintings based on hidden objects found throughout Otay Valley Regional Park, and open studio night at F1VEart Studio & Gallery.
July 8 – One of several Liberty Station summer camps, San Diego Dance Theater’s annual Summer Workshop, runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through July 19.
July 13 – a community painting day with artist Paola Villaseñor aka PANCA, as she completes her “Installations at the Station” piece. At 1 p.m, visitors will have the chance to add their own touch to a mural that will be a lasting part of the Arts District. Painters of all experience levels are welcome.
July 20 – Combine storytelling and quilting at the Visions Museum of Textile Art at 10:15 a.m. on every third Saturday through September. “The Quilt Story” will be told in both English and Spanish and following the reading, visitors are invited to craft their own fabric collage.
July 21 – Shop wares and art from local artists at the latest collaboration between Good Faith and the Arts District. Head over at noon on the third Sunday of the month through September.
July 28 – The Summer Music Series, at 4 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of the month through September, welcomes Sonido de la Frontera with music best described as “a combination of Soundsystem culture, (with a) hiphop production aesthetic,” liberally laced with the sounds of cumbia.
In addition, Leslye Villaseñor’s show will remain open at Liberty Station throughout July, to Aug. 17 at Gallery 201.
