The Oceanside International Film Festival, with a salute to music in film and a nod to the surf scene, begins Tuesday and continues through Saturday at the Brooks Theater.

Opening night, at the Oceanside Museum of Art, begins with a celebration of photography from the rock n’ roll scene, presented and discussed by artists who captured the images, followed by a look into the career of musician, producer and film composer Jason Hill.

A member of the band Louis XIV, Hill also has provided the scores for major productions, including the film Gone Girl and the Netflix series Mindhunter.

Programs for parts of the fest focus on particular themes; for instance Wednesday’s slate includes thrillers and horror films, while Thursday’s films feature acts of courage. One of those films, Amazing Grace, a short by San Diego filmmaker Aiden Keltner, depicts a mother’s care for her adult son, who is schizophrenic.

There’s also the festival’s signature surf-themed shorts program with films from Pasadena and Los Angeles, and farther afield, from Mexico, Portugal and New Zealand.

The daily schedules begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. Saturday.

Festival film passes cost $45; individual screenings cost $15.
