Record Store Day a Boon for Independent Local Shops with Bevy of Special Releases

Love vinyl? Record Store Day will be celebrated Saturday at a number of San Diego County stores and there will be many limited releases for devotees.
The dozens of special releases include current best-selling artists like Olivia Rodrigo and artists of yesteryear (you pick the era), such as Cannonball Adderley, the Beatles, David Bowie, U2, De La Soul and Pearl Jam and Wiz Khalifa.
Local participants include more than a dozen stores in San Diego and six in North and East County. Here’s a selection:
- M-Theory Music, Mission Hills
- Flimzys Records, Bankers Hill
- Normal Records, East Village
- Folk Arts Rare Records, Corridor
- Re-Animated Records, La Mesa
- Lou’s Records, Encinitas
- Zena’s Records, Ramona
Check individual stores for hours and special releases shop owners will carry in conjunction with Record Store Day.
The commemorative day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture at independently-owned record stores in the U.S. and beyond.
The first Record Store Day, which took place the following year, continues to be celebrated at independently-owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world.
