San Carlos Library to host book and ballerina storytime and more

Are you a book lover hoping to learn something new? The San Diego Public Library’s got your back. Here’s just a smattering of the events going on this week (and beyond) at the San Carlos Branch Library for all ages.
Dance
First off is the “Book and a Ballerina” storytime hosted by City Ballet of San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 10:30 a.m. This hour-long program is an introduction to the world of classical ballet for children from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade.
Enjoy listening to a read-aloud story, hearing from a professional ballerina, and learning some basic dance steps.
Tactile arts
Additionally, the mixed-media art of Mallory Green will be on display in the Winer Family Community Room through December 1. Green is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in woven textiles, stained glass, and beadwork to create visually compelling and deeply symbolic pieces.
Chess
Did you know that playing chess can improve logical thinking and increase math ability? The Youth Chess for Kids and Teens program meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Library youth volunteers bring their passion for chess to the next generation by teaching the basic elements of the game. All skill levels are welcome. Are you ready to become the next chess world champion?
STEM Club
The Junior Innovators STEM Club is a new program for elementary and middle school students that is held on the third Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. Children will work hands-on on a variety of science and math activities provided by the Patrick Henry High School Junior Innovators Club.
Storytime
Join us for storytime for toddlers every Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., when our well-read storytellers Ms. Erin and Ms. Pam read books, sing songs, and teach children about early literacy.
There are also live, interactive story videos with Mr. Luan on Tuesdays. Come ready to learn, laugh, and move.
Homework
Do Your Homework @ the Library provides free assistance with homework assignments. Our homework center is open to all K-8 students, and homework coaches are available to guide and support student learning. The center is open on Tuesday to Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Books, books, books
The San Carlos Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come buy books and support the Friends of the Library.
The all-volunteer Friends of the Library groups are responsible for organizing events and fundraisers for each branch, advocating for libraries and literacy in general, and much more. They are a great way for book and library lovers of all ages to get involved in their local communities.
Ask for a membership envelope from the book sale cashiers to join (or donate to) the San Carlos Friends of the Library.
The Friends are in need of gently used book donations, which are accepted at any time during library open hours.
