The San Diego Air & Space Museum has been listed as one of the “10 Best Aviation Museums Around the U.S.” by Travel + Leisure magazine.

The article calls the museum “a fun place to visit … known not only for its aircraft, but its in-depth exhibits of famous aviators, including the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart, as well as its extensive library and archives. Don’t miss the flight simulators — they allow you to experience the aerobatics of aerial combat. For something a little easier on the body, there’s also the 3D/4D Zable Theater.

Some of the other institutions on the list include the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. (the San Diego Air & Space Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian), the Intrepid Museum in New York, the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Ohio and the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Fla.

The museum, in Balboa Park, is the only institution from California featured on the list.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is California’s official air and space museum and education center and is also the first aero-themed museum to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It also is home to the International Air & Space Hall of Fame.
