The San Diego Symphony will host a full day of musical performances Sunday to commemorate the newly renovated Jacobs Music Center.

The center, which began life as the Fox Theatre in 1929 and was known as Copley Symphony Hall for more than 30 years, has undergone a two-year renovation that includes a custom-designed orchestra enclosure, a tunable acoustic canopy and the reconfiguration of both the stage and the audience seating.

The open house, billed “A Day of Music,” will be free to the public and begin at 11 a.m. The lineup features musical groups from across San Diego, including 1st Marine Division Band Wind Ensemble,  Mariachi Garibaldi from Southwestern College and the San Diego Youth Symphony.

“From honoring our military and engaging our youth to collaborating across the border and uniting voices in a community to sing along, we hope to instill a sense of wonder, joy, and belonging that sets the stage for the next 100 years of music making in San Diego,” said Laura Reynolds, San Diego Symphony’s vice president of impact and innovation.

The Sunday event follows Saturday’s opening show at the center, with conductor
Rafael Payare leading the symphony and multiple guests on the bill, including the host, actor BD Wong, the soprano Hera Hyesang Park, Jeff Thayer on violin, Alisa Weilerstein on cello
and Inon Barnatan – who also serves as the La Jolla Music Society’s music director for its SummerFest event – on piano.
