There’s a certain game on Sunday. And a certain holiday coming up Friday. These two events can co-exist this San Diego weekend. Enjoy the one (or the commercials or Kendrick Lamar – all fine choices) and plan for the other. Let us help.

Wicked, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz, has been going strong for more than 20 years since its Broadway debut, and now it’s spawned a hit film too. This is the first weekend of the musical’s latest tour, at the San Diego Civic Theatre, and it will be a long stay, through March 2. Tickets, which start at $61, are scarce for most of the run, so take a look now. There is very limited availability this weekend.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla offers its Mornings at the Museum series for local early birds – you know who you are. Try yoga or a fusion fit class, then stroll the wellness market or the galleries, as museum admission is included in the ticket price of $77, with promo codes available. Opens at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The San Diego Chinese Historical Society and Museum offers San Diegans another chance to celebrate the Year of the Snake at the 42nd annual San Diego Chinese New Year Fair, at Third Avenue and J Street. The free fun, which includes vendors, traditional dances, music, martial arts and crafts, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Need Valentine’s ideas? Head to special markets with goodies for your favorite guy or gal:

  • North Park Makers Market & Bar Hop – breweries play host at 1 p.m. Saturday so you can enjoy a favorite brew to make the shopping go down easier. Stop by Mike Hess Brewing Company, Original 40 and U-31.
  • Cupid’s Valentine’s Day Market in Mission Valley – opens at 11 a.m. Sunday, near Nordstrom Rack and Novo Brazil Brewing Co., with a variety of booths, along with door prizes and raffles.
Rain made selling flowers and Valentine's Day decorations more difficult.

Pizza? Need we say more? Head to Little Italy at 2 p.m. Saturday for Pizza Wars!, where you can be the judge of the many great pies on India Street. Start at Sorrento Ristorante, 1646 India. Tickets start at $45.

The 2025 Kook Run sets off along Highway 101 in Encinitas at 7 a.m. Sunday, with races for elites on down to juniors, and everyone in between. Costume optional, but preferred. The reward’s at the finish line, with live music, a beer garden, vendors and games. Spots still are open for both the 5K and 10K.

The Super Bowl – where to watch? Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. We have options:

  • Kansas City BBQ, downtown San Diego – It’s self explanatory, right? 600 W. Harbor Drive.
  • PB Avenue, Pacific Beach – the other side of the coin. Fly, Eagles Fly! 1060 Garnet Ave.
  • Sandbar, Mission Beach – The bowl, steps from the beach – why not? $75 admission includes  all-you-can-eat tacos and game day buffet. 718 Ventura Place.
  • Bier Garden, Encinitas – with in-house games and, bonus! – gift cards for prizes. 641 S. Coast Hwy. 101.
  • 3n1, Chula Vista – take in the game in a club atmosphere, complete with cigar lounge. $10 seat deposit. 2330 Proctor Valley Road.
