Hungry for experiences of the classic variety? Prefer to create something yourself? Or are you just plain hungry? Check, check and check this San Diego weekend.

Looking for a different take on stagecraft? See the 22nd annual Paper Theatre Festival exhibit on display at the Nest located at UC San Diego’s Geisel Library East, on the second floor. But at noon Friday, there’s also the second of two free live shows, “Lady Ada: Steampunk Heroine” being performed in the “informal, fun style of the true Victorian roots of paper theatre.” The exhibit continues through Aug. 15.

The ocean is a challenge to capture, but give it a go at the Oceanside Museum of Art at 5:30 p.m. Friday for a happy hour version of museum’s Studio Arts workshops. Join arts educator Robin Douglas for “The Art of Surf” to view celebrated artists over drinks and nibbles, followed by a rapid demonstration of their styles. Guests will then be guided to interpret the artists and create their own singular work of art. Tickets cost $65, but there is a member discount.

The month-long SummerFest by the La Jolla Music Society returns to The Conrad beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Enjoy the greatest composers – Bach, Mendelsson, Stravinsky, to start, on up to modern practitioners – during nearly 20 performances, continuing this weekend and through Aug. 26. Tickets start at $41.

Shakespeare in the summer? Yes, please. Free Shakespeare in the summer? Chef’s kiss. The Southwestern Summer Shakespeare Festival at Southwestern College in Chula Vista continues with two classics, The Comedy of Errors and Hamlet. Tickets, while free, must be claimed online. Comedy… , performed as a 2 p.m. matinee, is available Saturday and Sunday, while Hamlet, at 7 p.m., is available all weekend. The fest goes through Aug. 5.

Julian wants you to know they’re not just home to apples and tasty pies. Try wine and ciders too at the eighth annual Sip of Julian at 11 a.m. Saturday. Enjoy small bites at the participants too, including Menghini Winery, Storum Ranch Cider & Wine, Blue Door Winery, Calico Cidery, the Cooler and Volcan Mountain Winery. Head to the Town Hall, 2129 Main St., to start. Tickets are $35.

If you can’t get enough of wings, the National Chicken Wing Day and Spirits Fest on Saturday is what you’ve been waiting for. Head to Waterfront Park at 1 p.m. for so much finger-licking goodness, including signature competition flavors, DJs, live entertainment, spirit sampling, games and more. Tickets start at $35.

Drop by the Balboa Theatre for a cross-border collab. The venue will host the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday for “Stronger Together,” a collaboration with two Mexican coros gay, from Mexico City and Tijuana. Tickets start at $30.

Finally, the masked electronic duo ATLiens drop in at NOVA SD, 454 Sixth Ave. at 9:30 p.m. Saturday for the local stop of their “Space Cathedral” tour. Admission costs $35.
