LGBTQ Film Fest Opens with Work Ranging from Light Hearted to High Drama

The San Diego LGBTQ Film Festival begins Thursday with the opening-night feature F.L.Y. at the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.
The four-day festival slate includes drama, comedy, shorts and horror, with most screenings taking place at Museum of Photographic Arts, now part of the San Diego Museum of Art.
F.L.Y. tells the story of exes, an editor and aspiring drag performer, who are thrown together due to the pandemic.
The closing night film, Riley, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, depicts a star high school quarterback’s struggle with coming out.
Most individual tickets cost $15, while all-access passes cost $150.
Other films and events include:
- Friday – The Judgment, about a man confronting spiritual fears in the wake of a family emergency that forces him back into the closet with his partner.
- Saturday – High Tide, a portrait of queer lives intersecting on the beaches of Provincetown, the documentary Bulletproof: A Lesbian’s Guide to Surviving the Plot, and LGBTQ Shortfest, with eight films.
