San Diego Weekend Guide: Nov. 15-17 – Camping & Crooning

Parents, aunties, uncles, godparents, et al, unite! This San Diego weekend is for the kiddies, not to mention those who love Christmas. Let the holiday revels begin.

First up, see San Diego Music Award winner Sara Petite celebrate the Beat Farmers and Mojo Nixon at 8 p.m. Friday with San Diego Music Hall of Famer Jeff Berkley. Chloe Lou, Shawn Rohlf and Ariel Levine are among others on the bill. Tickets for the show, at the Ken Club in Kensington, cost $15.

Snapdragon Stadium hosts Punk In The Park, with a slate of bands headed by The Offspring and Pennywise, at noon Saturday. Look out for craft beer tastings too. Head to Thrive Park at Snapdragon Stadium. Admission, with fees, starts at $110.

The San Diego State University President’s Concert at Balboa Theatre features the SDSU Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 as well as works by special guest composer John Mackey. Tickets for the show, at 7 p.m. Saturday, are free for the SDSU community.

Common Theory Public House hosts Filipino Night at its Otay Ranch location on Saturday. The celebration features tagalog songs from Chula Vista native Katriz Trinidad, who appeared on Season 7 of “The Voice.” She performs at 8 p.m. Guests can enjoy Filipino-inspired specials while sipping on Buko Pandan Haze beer from GOAL. Brewing.

Whether the child in your life likes science or singing, there’s a spot for them this weekend:

• Casa del Prado Theatre, Balboa Park – San Diego Junior Theatre and Blindspot Collective partner for “Trash Panda-monium,” an interactive play about camping and furry friends. Tickets cost $17.50 and are available for the 10 a.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Sunday shows.
• Kids and Coffee, Carlsbad – the free grand opening of the play space includes Bluey for the ribbon cutting and dancing. Also enjoy face painting, food and music. Reservations are required to play at the party, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
• San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, Escondido – introduce youngsters to astronomy, astronauts and aerospace at Space Night with hands-on activity booths featuring telescopes, robots and, of course, space slime. 5 p.m. Saturday. General admission, $17.
• Balboa Theatre, Gaslamp – at “Encanto – The Sing-Along Film Concert” warble along to the tale of the magical Madrigal family. The film will screen, accompanied by a 10-piece orchestra, at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $41.

For those of you who really get in the spirit early, we have holiday openings too, both on Friday:

• Camp Christmas – the Pine Valley campground turns into a winter wonderland, with computerized lights and a water show, both synchronized to holiday music, along with a variety of games and activities. Admission: adults, $15; youth, $10; 4 and under, free. Open 5:30 to 9 p.m. Continues through Dec. 22.
• San Diego Botanic Garden – the “Lightscape” show begins its third year at the Encinitas attraction with tunnels of twinkling lights and works from international artists along a mile-long trail. Adult general admission starts at $26, increasing based on value, off-peak and peak ticket purchases. Open 5-10 p.m. On select dates through Jan. 5.
