30th Annual PLNU Writer’s Symposium Hosts Authors Albom, Cisneros, Ward

The 30th anniversary of the Writer’s Symposium by the Sea will feature award-winning writers Mitch Albom, Sandra Cisneros and Jesmyn Ward.
The authors will be interviewed in events that will take place over three days from Wednesday to Friday at Point Loma Nazarene University’s Point Loma campus. Each appearance starts at 7 p.m.
Ward, the first woman and first person of color to win two National Book Awards for Fiction, will begin the symposium Wednesday with a conversation about her most recent book “Let Us Descend,” the story of a young girl who was enslaved in the years before the Civil War.
Her 2017 novel “Sing, Unburied, Sing” and “Salvage the Bones” from 2011 won the National Book Awards for Fiction.
Latina American short-story writer Cisneros will follow on Thursday, discussing her first published book of poetry in 28 years, “Woman Without Shame: Poems” or “Mujer sin vergüenza.”
Her other recent book is “Martita, I Remember You: A Story in English and Spanish.”
The three-day event will conclude with an appearance by Albom, who has written eight No. 1 New York Times bestsellers, including “Tuesdays with Morrie.”
His most recent book “The Little Liar” will be available for ticket holders at the event.
All three author interviews will be preceded by live music.
Tickets may be obtained online.
