Are You Nuts About Knots? Experience the Art and Craft of Knot Tying at The Maritime Museum


Nuts about knots?
The Maritime Museum of San Diego’s International Guild of Knot Tyers North American Chapter will bring the Art and Craft of Knot Tying to visitors and members of the Maritime Museum of San Diego for one day only on Oct. 5th from 10 am. 5 p.m.
A Registered Educational Charity, the International Guild of Knot Tyers was founded, with 25 members, in April 1982, as an association of folks with interests in knots and knotting techniques of all kinds. In succeeding years, the Guild has grown and now has more than 1,000 members worldwide.
According to Raymond Ashley, Ph.D., K.C.I., President/CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, “We are excited to share with our community the enormous talent of this special group of artisans enthusiastic about their knot-related work and eager to teach visitors the art of ropemaking and knot tying.”
The purpose of IGKT NA is to promote the art, craft, and science of knotting, its study and practice, and to facilitate communications among all North American members and between the IGKT-NA and IGKT. For one day only, Maritime Museum of San Diego visitors and members can view IGKT NA members’ work, meet the artisans, learn the art of ropemaking, witness knot-tying demonstrations, and more. This unique opportunity to free with the purchase of general admission.
The Maritime Museum of San Diego is open daily at Star of India wharf located at 1492 N. Harbor Drive between Grape and Ash Street. Visitors can explore the floating museum of ships along the north embarcadero and multiple below-deck exhibits with one general admission ticket. General admission self-guided tour prices for adults are $24.00, seniors, military, and students 13-17 are $18.00 and youth 3-12 $12.00. Children under two are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at sdmaritime.org or at the Museum Ticket Booth.
