Museum of Making Music Ready for Debut After Extensive Renovations

The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad is set to re-open next Monday, April 15, after completing a renovation project with special new features.
The museum now offers spaces for immersive musical instrument exhibitions and a versatile studio/classroom for both students and adults. The Backstage Lounge and Center Stage are new. The latter is a dedicated interactive room that provides hands-on, music-
making experiences all ages, from pre-school to high school.
The space is configured into two areas – one for older students, featuring a variety of electronic instruments and and the other with instruments that are easily accessible
for younger children.
The venue originally opened in 2000 at the National Association of Music Merchants headquarters in Carlsbad.
“We are excited to reopen our museum doors to our extraordinary community as we welcome
back visitors to enjoy renovated galleries, hands-on musical experiences and incredible
products launched at our 2024 NAMM Show,” said John Mlynczak, NAMM president and CEO.
The museum’s renovated galleries will feature inaugural exhibitions and remixed collections, among them newly introduced products from dozens of iconic brands, including Yamaha, Martin, Vox, Deering, Gator, BOSS, that were part of the NAMM Show.
To celebrate the grand reopening, NAMM and the museum will host a private event
Sunday evening, with guided tours, distinguished guests, live music and
entertainment.
The venue also will continue its concert series with dates scheduled through July 6, featuring artists such as Peter Sprague, June Kuramoto and Curtis Taylor.
The renovation and new museum activities are possible due to a grant from the Kenneth T. & Eileen L. Norris Foundation.
